The US Army has awarded a contract to Alliant Techsystems (ATK) to supply additional non-Nato ammunition to the Afghan Security Forces.

Under the $41m contract, the company will provide supply chain management, quality assurance and logistics support in the delivery of non-standard small, medium and large-calibre ammunition.

ATK will also provide mortars and rockets to Kabul, which will be used solely by the allied security forces.

The contract is part of an existing three-year contract with the US Army Contracting Command in Rock Island, Illinois, originally awarded in 2009.

Non-standard munitions are munitions and explosives that have not completed safety type classification and are not managed by the Joint Munitions Command or the Army Missile Command.
