Lockheed Martin will produce additional persistent threat detection systems (PTDS) for the US Army under a $142m contract.
The PTDS is an aerostat-based system equipped with multimission sensors used to provide long-endurance intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and communications in support of the US military and its allies.

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Sensors Integrated Defence Technologies vice-president Stephanie Hill said the PTDS delivered real-time surveillance and actionable intelligence to troops.
The detection systems are filled with helium and attached to a relocatable mooring system by a high-strength tether to carry different types of surveillance equipment to the battlefield.
Work on the additional systems will be carried out in Ohio, Florida, New Jersey and New York.
