Turkey could receive 14 CH-47F Chinook helicopters along with associated parts, equipment, training and logistical support from the US under a $1.2bn foreign military sale.

In addition to the Chinook helicopters, the sale would include T55-GA-714A turbine engines (32), AN/ARC-201E single channel ground and airborne radio systems (SINCGARS) (28), and AN/APR-39A(V)1 radar signal detecting sets (14).

Tools and test equipment, site survey, personnel training and training equipment, ferry services, and technical and logistics support are also included in the proposal.

The military equipment will improve Turkey’s capability to meet current and future requirements for troop movement, medical evacuation, aircraft recovery, parachute drop, search and rescue, disaster relief, firefighting and heavy construction.

The acquired Chinook helicopters will be used to enhance Turkey’s homeland defence, deter regional threats, and improve humanitarian and disaster mobilisation and response.

Boeing of Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, will be the prime contractor to supply the helicopters and associated equipment.
