The US Army has awarded a $189m contract to Wisconsin-based defence vehicles manufacturer Oshkosh Corporation for an additional 352 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) all-terrain vehicles (M-ATV).

The M-ATV incorporates proprietary TAK-4 independent suspension system with combat-tested technology. The vehicle allows extreme mobility for rugged terain and 70% off-road duty.

The M-ATV has a payload capacity of 1,814kg and a seating capacity of four passengers plus one gunner. It minimises operator and maintenance training and enhances crew effectiveness.

Oshkosh received the third order for the vehicles to bring the cumulative value of the three orders to $2.3bn.
