ITT Corporation has successfully tested its Joint Contamination Surface Detector (JCSD), a vehicle-mounted tactical detector for the US Army, at Fort Sumner, New Mexico

The trials evaluated the system’s ability to detect small concentrations of chemical agents on road surfaces while travelling as fast as 45mph.

The system uses a downward looking laser to read chemical signatures of warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals and non-traditional agents while in motion.

The JCSD is funded by the US Department of Defense agency, Defense Threat Reduction Agency and Research Chemical/Biological Technologies Directorate as part of the Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Unmanned Ground Reconnaissance Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration.
