A majority of EU transport ministers have approved the refinancing of the Galileo satellite navigation project from the EU budget.

The ministers were meeting in Brussels to discuss the future of Europe’s biggest space project, which will see a network of 30 satellites provide sat-nav information.

The decision follows the collapse earlier in the year of the private consortium asked to manage Galileo’s infrastructure services.

The approval was made without the backing of Spain which demanded that it host a ground station for the network.
