The vehicle is equipped with the Infanterist der Zukunft (IdZ) future soldier system, which allows the gunner to engage the enemy from inside the vehicle due to a display and a joystick control.

The vehicle will also be equipped with additional mine protection before being deployed to Afghanistan to replace the aging, unarmoured Unimogs.

About 220 units of the vehicle are planned for delivery and are scheduled for deployment with the 292nd Infantry Battalion in Afghanistan by July 2011.

The German-Dutch Boxer programme is being carried out by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall, according to Defpro.com.
