“There’s a difference between halting the aid and reviewing it,” he added.

Deliveries to Egypt in the early part of this year include spare parts for F-16 warplanes, coastal patrol ships and fuses for munitions, according to Agence France Presse.

The US has been providing tens of billions worth of arms and training to Egypt for over more than three decades, with $1.3bn as annual defence assistance.

Lapan said the US military had no plans to redeploy its forces in or near Egypt in response to the ongoing protests.
