The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a potential sale of 30 AH-64D block II Apache helicopters remanufactured to block III configuration and 30 block III Apache helicopters to the UAE.

Under the estimated $5bn foreign military sale, the UAE will receive 120 T700-GE-701D engines, 76 modernised pilot night vision sensors, 70 fire control radars, 70 infrared jammers and 70 radar signal detecting sets.

The package also includes 70 radar jammers, 70 common missile warning systems, 30mm automatic weapons, improved counter measure dispensers, communication and support equipment, improved helmet display sight systems and related equipment.

The proposed sale will provide defence for vital installations, close air support for military ground forces, advanced targeting and engagement capabilities.

Boeing and Lockheed will be the prime contractors.
