Milrem Robotics has opened its new office in the Netherlands and launched the upgraded THeMIS uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV).
The new office is part of the company’s goal to develop a Central European Robotics Center. It is the fifth in Europe followed by two offices in Estonia, and one each in Sweden and Finland.

Milrem Robotics chose the city of Best near Eindhoven as the strategic location for the new Dutch office due to the site’s proximity to the company’s key customers such as the Royal Dutch Army.
Milrem Robotics Netherlands managing director Julien den Ouden said: “Our office is situated in the middle of the Brainport Eindhoven technology region and is well connected by a large European Airport, and by a broad road network to access the rest of Europe.
“This allows us to efficiently provide training and coaching to officers and NCOs in tactical basic operations with unmanned systems.
“We will offer the ‘Milrem experience’ in a comprehensive package where the UGV is integrated with various other third-party systems.”

By GlobalDataAccording to the company, the UGV was specially designed to accommodate all hardware, and software operations of the Milrem Intelligent Function Integration Kit (MIFIK), which features wired and wireless follow-me, waypoint navigation and obstacle detection.
The THeMIS camera system also received significant upgrades.
In June last year, a consortium led by Milrem Robotics won €30.6m to develop a European standardised UGS by the European Commission’s European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP).
