The scope of the contract includes exploring RAS technology to update the Italian Army’s RAS strategy.

Activities such as outlining an implementation roadmap for unveiling uncrewed systems and associated technology into service are also included in the campaign’s scope.

Milrem Robotics will demonstrate how RAS technology, systems, and architectures can provide the Italian Army’s ground armed forces with operational advantages when performing operations in urban terrains.

The Italian CD&E level aims to explore prototyping skills and technological capabilities to showcase future operational benefits.

It is also aimed at identifying short to mid-term transformational initiatives, ranging from five to 15 years, for RAS capabilities’ operational development.

Milrem Robotics CEO Kuldar Väärsi said: “Milrem is proud to be selected as the partner for supporting the Italian Armed Forces in one of the most advanced and challenging RAS CD&E initiatives in the world.

“This programme is in line with our core competencies as a system integrator for autonomous and robotic technologies.”

The cooperation scope will see Milrem obtain, examine, and provide decision support data from field activities, war-gaming, modelling and simulation, new technologies, and more.

According to Milrem, the contract deliverables include a command-and-control system, an autonomy engine, and systems integration of third-party capabilities.

Several uncrewed ground and air vehicles, and wide range of sensors and effectors, are also included in the deliverables.

In November 2021, Milrem announced the opening of its new office in the Netherlands and the launch of its latest THeMIS uncrewed ground vehicle.
