The signing ceremony was chaired by Defence Minister Israel Katz. It was attended by Ministry’s Directorate of Defence Research & Development (DDR&D) head Brigadier General (Res.) Dr. Daniel Gold, US Defence Attaché Major General Aaron Drake, and other key officials.

Under this agreement, Rafael Advanced Defence Systems is tasked with supplying a significant quantity of Iron Dome interceptors to both the IMOD and the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).

Under a multi-billion-dollar contract, Rafael Advanced Defence Systems is the lead contractor, working alongside ELTA Systems, a division of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), and mPrest.

Rafael Advanced Defence Systems president and CEO Yoav Tourgeman: “Rafael welcomes the accelerated procurement of Iron Dome interceptors and the continued cooperation with the US Missile Defence Agency and Israel’s Directorate of Defence Research and Development (MAFAT).

“The expanded procurement reflects renewed confidence in Iron Dome, which has become a global benchmark for air-defence systems. Rafael remains firmly committed to fulfilling its mission and serving as a central pillar in Israel’s national security.”

The contract follows comprehensive negotiations led by Israel Missile Defence Organization (IMDO) director Moshe Patel in collaboration with the Israeli Programs at the US Missile Defence Agency (MDA) and Rafael Air Defence Systems division senior vice president and head Shlomo Toaff.

Funding for this procurement derives from a $5.2bn allocation for Israeli air defence within an $8.7bn US aid package approved by the US Congress in April 2024.

This funding also supports other systems such as David’s Sling and the high-powered Laser Defence System currently approaching its last phase of development.

The US government’s involvement includes manufacturing partnerships for Iron Dome components and broader support for Israel’s multi-layered missile defence initiatives.

Iron Dome is developed domestically in Israel, with production carried out in partnership with the US government.

The system is designed to intercept and neutralise short- and medium-range rockets, missiles, and uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Operational data from recent conflicts indicate that Iron Dome has achieved high interception rates in countering missile, rocket, UAV, and cruise missile attacks on civilian areas and critical infrastructure across Israel.

The US MDA plays a continuing role in developing and producing not only Iron Dome but also other Israeli air defence systems including David’s Sling and Arrow.

Israel Katz said: “This agreement stands as further testimony to the depth and strength of our alliance with the United States and to the robust cooperation between our nations. Together, we will continue developing and enhancing the world’s most advanced air defence systems – ensuring the security of our state and Israel’s strategic superiority for decades to come.”

In September 2025, IMOD demonstrated its 100 kilowatt laser directed energy weapon (LDEW) system alongside the Air Force and Rafael.
