Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that Indian Army is participating in the multinational military exercise ‘Shantir Ogroshena-2021’.

The exercise is being held at Bangabandhu Senanibas in Bangladesh.

It started on 4 April and will run until 12 April this year.

The nine-day exercise is being held to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangladesh’s ‘Father of the Nation’ Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and mark 50 years of its independence.

MoD noted that 30 personnel from Indian Army are participating in the exercise.

Apart from the Indian Army, 33 personnel from the Royal Bhutan Army and 30 from Sri Lankan Army are also participating in the exercise.

A total of 19 military observers from the US, the UK, Singapore, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Turkey are also participating in the exercise.

The Shantir Ogroshena exercise is aimed at strengthening the procedures and improve interoperability among the neighbourhood countries.

The armies of all the participating countries will share their expertise and refine their drills as well as procedures in ‘peace keeping’ operations.

In March, Indian special forces undertook a joint military exercise with US special forces at Bakloh in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh to boost interoperability.

This was the 11th edition of Indo-US joint special forces exercise ‘Vajra Prahar 2021’.

In February this year, Indian MoD announced that the Indian Army is in the process of procuring 556 augmented reality head-mounted display (ARHMD) systems.
