The company will draw on technical and design support from BAE Systems Hägglunds, the original developer of the BvS10 platform.

L&T announced its collaboration with BAE Systems in 2023 to introduce Indian variant of BvS10 as part of the “Make in India” programme.

The licenced manufacturing contract also covers an integrated logistics support package. It includes provisions for initial deployment, upkeep, and full life-cycle sustainment of the vehicles.

L&T precision engineering and systems senior vice president and head Arun Ramchandani said: “This contract marks a significant milestone in India’s defence landscape under the Make in India initiative and reaffirms L&T’s strengths in systems engineering and manufacturing of defence-critical requirements at industrial scale, complemented by a proven vehicle platform and the global defence credentials of BAE Systems.”

The BvS10 Sindhu is an upgraded variant of the BvS10 articulated all-terrain vehicle, adapted for Indian conditions including operational requirements at high altitudes, deserts, marshlands and in amphibious environments.

The vehicle completed a series of trials across different terrains and elevations in India.

The BvS10 Sindhu programme will provide Indian Army with “enhanced operational, strategic and tactical mobility” for various deployment needs, L&T said.

It also aligns with India’s ongoing military modernisation initiatives.

BAE Systems Hägglunds regional director Darren Restarick said: “This milestone not only lays the foundation for future growth but also marks the first expansion of BvS10 into Asia – underscoring its unrivalled position in the all-terrain, armoured, amphibious market.”

The BvS10 armoured all-terrain vehicle is designed to travel over snow, ice, rocks, sand, mud, swamps, and mountain slopes. It is also capable of operating in flooded areas and coastal waters.

The modular construction enables reconfiguration for different operational needs such as troop transport, command and control functions, ambulance services, vehicle recovery, logistics supply, situational awareness tasks and mounting of weapon systems.

Globally, the BvS10 platform is already in service with the armed forces of Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ukraine, and the UK.

In September 2025, BAE Systems delivered three BvS10 armoured personnel carriers to defence forces in Sweden, Germany, and the UK.
