India and Bangladesh conduct Sampriti 2017 joint exercise

The armies of India and Bangladesh have conducted the seventh iteration of Sampriti joint exercise at Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, Vairengte in Mizoram.

The bilateral exercise seeks to enhance interoperability and cooperation between the two armies.

The Indo-Bangladesh joint exercise allowed participating troops to work in a counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism environment under the UN mandate.

Carried out under the supervision of the Red Horns Division of Gajraj Corps, the 13-day-long field training exercise culminated in a validation exercise on 15-16 November.

During the exercise, armies from both the countries learnt about each other’s organisational structure and tactical drills.

The Indian Ministry of Defence stated that the training subsequently advanced to a range of joint tactical exercises.

The exercise, which included Command Post Exercise (CPX) and Field Training Exercise (FTX), witnessed participation of troops from 38 East Bengal Regiment of Bangladesh Army and Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army.

The CPX was conducted at Joint Training Node, Umroi, Meghalaya, India, and involved counter-terrorist operation planning while FTX focused on company/platoon level tactical drills, as well as a tactical exercise.

The exercise further helped in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

The Indian and Bangladeshi troops also conducted a demonstration on room intervention drills.
