The IIDFS offers a blend of real-life actions with synthetic environments, enhancing training capabilities, said the company.

Elbit Systems UK stated that over the past two years it has developed a synthetic platform compatible with a surrogate gun.

After successful IOC testing, the company has delivered three 105mm Light Gun trainers to the Combined Arms Manoeuvre School and the Royal School of Artillery.

These systems are now ready for immediate training use by the British Army.

The IIDFS platform is said to improve artillery and mortar training by reducing reliance on live firing exercises.

It employs simulated ammunition, allowing soldiers to train more frequently and for extended periods at reduced costs.

The system enables unlimited virtual rounds without the need for physical ranges or live ammunition, thereby minimising barrel wear and enhancing safety.

Additionally, digital after-action insights are provided to refine future performance.

Full Operating Capability for IIDFS is anticipated later in 2025.

Elbit Systems UK plans to integrate IIDFS with other training platforms and will deliver additional 105mm Light Gun and 81mm Mortar systems to various military institutions, including the Collective Training Group.

Over the next 12 months, Elbit Systems UK’s training teams will conduct 46 weeks of personnel training.

Elbit Systems UK CEO Martin Fausset said: “IIDFS delivers a cost efficient, immersive way to train – bringing realism to synthetic training environments. It’s a powerful tool for developing operational readiness, and we’re proud to be playing a role in training British troops.”

Previously, in December 2024, Elbit Systems UK completed System Acceptance Trials for the mobile component of the Joint Fires Synthetic Trainer for the British Armed Forces.
