UAE’s defence technology group EDGE and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) have reached a partnership by agreeing to a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Under the strategic agreement, the companies will co-develop an advanced counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) to suit the requirements of the UAE market.

The C-UAS solution will also be developed for a wider benefit of the MENA region.

EDGE CEO and managing director Faisal Al Bannai said: “In line with the recent Abraham Accords and the UAE’s newly established cooperation and spirit of collaboration with Israel, EDGE and IAI are joining forces to deal with this growing threat.”

To partner with the Israeli defence manufacturer on the latest development, EDGE is using its subsidiary and national security electronic warfare (EW) services and solutions provider SIGN4L.

SIGN4L and IAI will jointly use their technical expertise to develop the system tailored to customer needs.

Furthermore, the project will receive support via IAI’s partnership with Belgium Advanced Technology Systems, which has local technical and marketing expertise.

Faisal added: “Unmanned aircraft systems today are a preferred solution in building agility and resilience to the emerging challenges of asymmetric warfare.

“As EDGE invests extensively in autonomous capabilities, our co-development of a counter-UAS in partnership with Israel Aerospace Industries will only help strengthen our advanced technology portfolio, and partnerships in the region and internationally.”

The C-UAS will feature an advanced 3D radar, communications intelligence (COMINT), and electro-optic technologies, all of them integrated into a ‘unified command and control system’.

It will be fully autonomous and does not require human interference.
