According to the company, the new facility will allow it to work in close cooperation with the service and industry partners on initiatives such as the future vertical lift and enduring fleet modernisation.

Furthermore, the facility will serve as a testbed and demonstration area for evolving technologies. It supports the US Army’s procurement strategy “Fly Before You Buy”.

Collins Aerospace Avionics president Dave Nieuwsma said: “Our Customer Experience Center in Huntsville is the first of its kind for Collins, established with the express purpose of delivering integrated, innovative solutions to Army Aviation for its most important programmes.

“Collaboration will be the facility’s central focus. Collaboration with the army, collaboration with industry, collaboration across Collins and collaboration with our sister Raytheon businesses in Huntsville.”

The centre is designed to support the army to avoid ‘vendor lock’ and benefit from more effective platform sustainment from effective product upgrades.

Collins Aerospace plans to use the centre to showcase modular open system architectures at the aircraft and sub-systems levels.

The Customer Experience Center will demonstrate several of the company’s open system solutions, including its MOSARC avionics architecture, FlexLink adaptive connectivity and Perigon flight control, vehicle management computer and Mission System for Air Launched Effects.

Furthermore, the centre features a mock military rotorcraft equipped with current and emerging products of the company.

This military rotorcraft enables visitors to test Collins Aerospace and non-Collins Aerospace products in operational situations via a ‘simulated’ flying experience.
