The Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) has contracted BAE Systems subsidiary Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) to supply Digital Virtual Trainer (DVT).
The five-year enterprise licence contract has options for three additional years of maintenance support.

With DVT, the Canadian Army will have access to immersive, adaptable, and scalable synthetic training solutions, enhancing their mission readiness, said BAE.
The DVT programme, which leverages BISim’s suite of simulation products, is designed to enable army personnel to effectively plan, rehearse, execute, and analyse complex missions.
The solution facilitates first-person training experiences and collective exercises within virtual environments that replicate real-world terrains globally.

According to a GlobalData report, the global military simulation and virtual training market is forecasted to experience a compound annual growth rate of 3.43% from 2017 to 2027.
North America is projected to maintain its lead in the market, accounting for 33.5% of the revenue by 2027. The Asia-Pacific region is expected to follow with a 30.5% share, while Europe is anticipated to hold a 21.9% share of the market revenue, said the report.
According to BAE, the Virtual Battlespace 4 (VBS4) is central to DVT system which is coupled with Blue IG image generator technology.
This combination ensures high visual realism and compatibility with existing military systems.
The DVT’s design prioritises interoperability and user-friendliness, incorporating “advanced tools” for exercise control and “after-action review” processes.
To further enhance the realism and versatility of training scenarios, the DVT package includes TerraTools Platinum.
This terrain generation software utilises Geographic Information System data to craft geo-specific environments tailored to specific mission requirements.
BISim was selected after a competitive evaluation process.
Earlier in 2025, BISim also entered into a strategic collaboration with Rheinmetall focused on developing advanced simulation technologies for modern military training applications.
