BAE Systems has secured a contract valued at $473m from the US Army Contracting Command (ACC) Detroit to manufacture 40 additional M109A7 Paladin Self-Propelled Howitzer sets.
The contract, awarded in September 2025, marks the initial phase of a five-year contract arrangement. The sets include the M992A3 Carrier Ammunition Tracked vehicles.

Production for the M109A7 will take place in York, Pennsylvania, Elgin, Oklahoma and Anniston, Alabama.
In addition to equipment delivery, BAE Systems will provide support services under the contract. These services comprise technical support packages, post-production refurbishment, and welding compliance.

The M109A7 is the latest version in BAE Systems’ M109 series and is designed for use by The US Army’s Armored Brigade Combat Teams.

By GlobalDataThe vehicle is operated by a crew of four and measures 9.7 metres (m) in length, 3.9m in width and 3.3m in height, with a maximum gross weight of 35,380 kilogrammes.
It is equipped with digital backbone architecture that incorporates an onboard digital fire control system to manage firing data for its cannon system.
The system also features a position navigation mechanism and an integrated computer that runs diagnostics programmes.
Armed with a 155mm M284 cannon mounted on an M182A1 gun mount and an automated loader, the Paladin M109A7 artillery system sustains a rate of one round per minute, with a maximum firing rate of four rounds per minute.
It can achieve a range of up to 22 kilometres (km) with standard projectiles and extend to 30km using rocket-assisted ammunition.
In July 2024, BAE Systems Land and Armaments received a separate $579.3m contract from the US Department of Defense for manufacturing additional M109A7 self-propelled artillery systems, M992A3 support vehicles and associated fielding kits.
