The US Army has chosen the Atlas Precision Strike System from AEVEX for its first fielding of Launched Effects–Short Range (LE-SR) technology.

AEVEX secured the contract following a series of soldier-conducted tests and a special user demonstration (SUD) event, both of which confirmed the Atlas system’s readiness for operational deployment.

Aviation programme executive officer Brigadier General David Phillips stated that the Army selected Atlas due to its immediate availability for deployment.

“[They] were production-ready that we could then rapidly field,” Phillips stated following remarks at the Association of the US Army conference.

The Atlas Precision Strike System serves as a Group II platform designed to support intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) as well as strike missions.

It offers extended operational duration, supports modular payloads, and is capable of autonomous operation in contested environments.

The system can be launched and managed by a small team with minimal setup, and its open architecture allows for integration with a range of sensors and electronic warfare or strike payloads according to evolving mission requirements.

The navigation suite offers performance and targeting even where GPS or electronic signals face interference.

The selection of Atlas forms part of the US Army’s broader strategy to advance launched effects technologies across divisions by the close of fiscal year 2026.

AEVEX president Roger Wells said: “We’re working with the Army to advance the next generation of launched effects. Atlas was designed from the start to give operators an adaptable, intelligent platform built on open architecture and advanced autonomy. It delivers the flexibility and precision needed to succeed in complex mission environments.”
