Hungarian space and defence company 4iG Space and Defence (4iG S&D) has entered into an exclusive agreement with Tatra Trucks to distribute and sell the latter’s military and special-purpose vehicles in Hungary.

This arrangement grants 4iG S&D the sole right to represent the Czech vehicle manufacturer in the country, with a focus on introducing Tatra’s heavy-duty, off-road platforms for defence, security, and other government applications.

The vehicles will be introduced within a “clearly defined commercial and professional framework”, according to a statement from 4iG S&D.

The partnership extends beyond distribution. Both parties are exploring additional collaboration within Hungary’s defence industry, such as local manufacturing, assembly, product support, as well as maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services.

Rába Automotive, in which 4iG S&D recently secured a 74.34% majority stake, is expected to play a significant part in these activities.

Plans under consideration include enabling 4iG S&D to participate in component and subsystem manufacturing for TATRA vehicles, production of complete vehicles, and new joint development and market initiatives both in Hungary and abroad.

The agreement also sets the groundwork for future projects between the partners.

The companies aim for Rába, established 129 years ago, to become Tatra’s manufacturing and development centre for Central Europe and the second largest such facility on the continent.

Tatra is majority owned by Czechoslovak Group (CSG), which controls 65% of its shares.

CSG is active across more than 10 countries, operating manufacturing and development capabilities in land systems, ammunition production, vehicle manufacturing, and specialised defence areas.

By partnering with Tatra and the broader CSG network, 4iG S&D seeks to align with its long-term strategy of strengthening Hungary’s position within the regional defence industry value chain through international cooperation.

The exclusive agreement is said to support the long-term strategy of 4iG S&D and 4iG Group to provide NATO-compatible defence solutions through international partnerships and to increase Hungary’s involvement in the regional defence industry value chain.
