Textron has been granted a patent for a light guide plate with stripe structures and light-adjusting structures. The light-adjusting structures are arranged vertically between adjacent stripe structures and have non-symmetrical shapes. The patent claims that the occupy ratio of the light-adjusting structures increases as the distance from the light-incident surface increases. A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11774663B2) describes a light guide plate with improved light-adjusting structures. The light guide plate includes a main body with a light-incident surface, an opposite light-incident surface, and an optical surface. Stripe structures are disposed on the optical surface, extending from the light-incident surface to the opposite light-incident surface. Between every two adjacent stripe structures, there are light-adjusting structures arranged along a vertical direction to the light-incident surface. The occupy ratio of the light-adjusting structures to the optical surface increases as the distance from the light-incident surface increases.

In addition, the base length of each light-adjusting structure is parallel to the vertical direction and increases with distance from the light-incident surface. The pitch between any two adjacent light-adjusting structures also increases with distance from the light-incident surface. The distance between adjacent stripe structures remains consistent, with a constant width. Alternatively, the width of each stripe structure decreases from the end near the light-incident surface to the other end away from it, resulting in a greater distance between adjacent stripe structures.

The light-adjusting structures comprise a first light active surface and a second light active surface connected to it. The first light active surface faces the light-incident surface, while the second light active surface faces the opposite side of the main body. The first and second light active surfaces are inclined towards different directions, forming a non-symmetrical shape. The first included angle between the first light active surface and the optical surface is greater than the second included angle between the second light active surface and the optical surface.

The patent also covers a backlight module and a display device incorporating the described light guide plate. The backlight module includes the light guide plate, at least one film in front of it, a reflecting film behind it, and a light source adjacent to the light-incident surface. The display device includes the same components as the backlight module, with the addition of a display panel in front of the film.

Overall, this patent presents a light guide plate design with optimized light-adjusting structures, improving the efficiency and performance of backlight modules and display devices.
