Notably, Computer and Mathematical Occupations jobs accounted for a 28% share of the global aerospace, defence and security industry’s artificial intelligence-related total new job postings in Q4 2023, down 3% over the prior quarter.

Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive artificial intelligence-related hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 28%, emerged as the top artificial intelligence-related job roles within the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q4 2023, with new job postings drop by 3% quarter-on-quarter. Architecture and Engineering Occupations came in second with a share of 18% in Q4 2023, with new job postings rising by 3% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent artificial intelligence roles include Management Occupations with a 9% share in Q4 2023, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in aerospace, defence and security industry accounted for 53% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q4 2023 were Huntington Ingalls Industries, CAE, Boeing, Leidos, and RTX. Together they accounted for a combined share of 53% of all artificial intelligence-related new jobs in the aerospace, defence and security industry.

Huntington Ingalls Industries posted 1,237 artificial intelligence-related new jobs in Q4 2023, CAE 549 jobs, Boeing 484 jobs, Leidos 422 jobs, and RTX 228 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 63.01% share of total new job postings, Q4 2023

The largest share of artificial intelligence-related new job postings in the aerospace, defence and security industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 63.01% followed by India (7.72%) and Canada (6.20%). The share represented by the US was three percentage points higher than the 59.60% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
