US manufacturer CPI Aerostructures (CPI Aero) has received new purchase orders from Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company, for Hover Infrared Suppression System (HIRSS) module assemblies.
Under the deal, CPI Aero will be responsible for supplying the module assemblies for use by the UH-60 Black Hawk medium-lift utility helicopter.

CPI Aero president and chief executive officer Douglas McCrosson said: “These new orders indicate to us our government’s commitment to providing support to aircraft in need of maintenance and repair, especially in light of the recent passage of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 that increases funding to rebuild the military’s readiness and modernisation efforts.
“Our decades-long experience manufacturing new structure for ageing aircraft positions us to benefit from an improving defence aftermarket environment as we look to build momentum heading into 2019.”
The two purchase orders awarded by Sikorsky are valued at a total of approximately $8m.
In 2006, CPI Aero first produced HIRSS module assemblies for the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter as original equipment.

By GlobalDataPrior to the current agreement, the last order for the delivery of the module assemblies was placed by Sikorsky in 2013.
The HIRSS is a defensive countermeasures system that plays a major part in supporting the survival of the UH-60 Black Hawk aircraft by reducing the opportunity for an infrared-seeking threat system to acquire, lock onto, track and destroy the helicopter.
The helicopter has been designed to carry out its primary mission as a troop carrier and logistical support aircraft.
In addition, the helicopter can be configured to carry out a range of other operations, such as medical evacuation, command and control, search and rescue, armed escort, electronic warfare, and executive transport missions.
