General Dynamics (GD) Missions Systems has been awarded a contract worth $3.9bn for the US Army’s Common Hardware Systems-5 (CHS-5) programme.

Under the contract, GD Mission System and its partner companies will supply between 75,000 and 100,000 hardware products to the US Army.

The company will also provide technical assistance support services and logistics for repair and replacement of the equipment.

The contract has a three-year base period and two one-year options.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has placed an order worth Skr350m ($39.16m) with Saab for the IDAS-2 (Integrated Defensive Aids Suite) self-protection suite.

The IDAS-2 to be delivered under the contract will be used to provide self-defence for the Indian Army’s Dhruv advanced light helicopter.

The proposed sale includes four UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, five Talon forward-looking infrared radars (FLIR), ten T700-GE-701D engines, 20 AN/AVS-6 helmet-mounted night-vision devices, five AN/APX-123A identification friend or foe (IFF) transponders, and ten embedded global positioning systems/inertial navigation systems.

The sale, which also covers support equipment, spare and repair parts, and training equipment, will support Latvia’s border security, anti-terrorist, troop lift, search-and-rescue, combat, medical evacuation, and re-supply/external lift capabilities.

The prime contractors for the deal will be Sikorsky Aircraft Company, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, and General Electric Aviation Company (GEAC).

Navistar Defense has secured a $29.58m contract from the US Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime to supply rocket-propelled grenade netting kits to the US Army.

The contractual work will be performed at Navistar Defense’s facility in Lisle, Illinois, until August 2021.

Rheinmetall has been awarded a soldier systems supply contract worth C$22m ($16.85m) by the Canadian Armed Forces.

The company will supply an additional 1,256 Argus soldier systems to the Canadian Army, under the contract.

The additional Argus systems will further enhance situational awareness for the dismounted troops, while providing improved command and control capabilities.
