The latest deal has been awarded under the SMDC’s Design, Development, Demonstration and Integration (D3I) Domain 1 contract.

Teledyne Brown Engineering will be responsible for providing its extended air defence simulation (EADSIM) solution under the arrangement, which is a community-accepted software model that is currently used by more than 220 sites worldwide.

"Teledyne has led and supported a broad range of air and missile defence programmes, including software development, hardware in the loop simulation, and test and evaluation of complex systems."

EADSIM is a workstation-hosted, system-level simulation used by combat developers, material developers and operational commanders.

The system supports theatre missile defence (TMD) by modelling surface-to-air engagements, air-to-air engagements and attack operations, in addition to battle management / command, control, communications and intelligence (BM / C3I) operations.

It is commonly used by operational commanders, trainers and analysts to help model and assess the performance and effectiveness of a wide range of present and future defence systems in a complete operational context.

Furthermore, the solution offers a single, integrated, modular, scalable, reconfigurable simulation of air, space and missile warfare activities.

Teledyne chairman, president and chief executive officer Robert Mehrabian said: “For decades, Teledyne has led and supported a broad range of air and missile defence programmes, including software development, hardware in the loop simulation, and test and evaluation of complex systems.

“Given current and emerging threats to US national security, we are pleased to play a role in our nation’s defence.”

The simulation system achieved its initial operational capability (IOC) in 1989 and has since been developed and sustained exclusively by Teledyne Brown Engineering.

Work on the project is expected to start immediately and has the possibility to be extended through to July 2023.
