Oshkosh Defense has received a $106m order from the US Army for the delivery of 416 units of the joint light tactical vehicles (JLTV).

The award is the eighth JLTV order since the contract was awarded to the company in August 2015.

It also includes scope for the delivery of associated installed and packaged kits for the tactical vehicles.

Oshkosh Defense Joint Programmes vice-president and general manager George Mansfield said: “The JLTV programme, currently in low rate initial production (LRIP), remains a top priority as we continue testing in support of a full rate production decision in fiscal year 2019 (FY19).

“Working closely with our government customer, we have completed reliability qualification testing, accumulating over 100,000 miles, and have exceeded reliability requirements.”

JLTVs offer protected, sustained, networked mobility for both personnel and payloads across the entire range of military operations. They are designed to replace a portion of the light tactical wheeled vehicle fleet.

The JLTV family of vehicles comprises two variants, the four-seat combat tactical vehicle (CTV) and the two-seat combat support vehicle (CSV).

CTVs have been designed to support the general purpose, heavy gun carrier and close combat weapon carrier missions, while the CSVs support the utility and shelter carrier mission.

JLTVs provide enhanced off-road mobility, fuel efficiency and reliability compared to the mine-resistant all-terrain vehicles.

As part of the JLTV programme, the company expects to equip the first US Army unit by the middle of the FY19.

It is also expected that both the US Army and the US Marine Corps will attain initial operating capability in early FY20.
