The contract has been awarded by the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate (JNLWD) through the US Department of Defense Ordnance Technology Consortium (DOTC).

Once delivered, the advanced capacitors integrated into the PEVS will be used in force protection and vehicle checkpoint operations.

“The PEVS system has the potential to support multiple missions and be mobile as operations change, making a compact footprint a critical requirement.”

GA-EMS Missile Defense and Space Systems vice-president Nick Bucci said: “We continue to shape capacitor technologies to address an expanding range of applications, including the advancement of directed energy weapon systems with non-lethal effects.

“The PEVS system has the potential to support multiple missions and be mobile as operations change, making a compact footprint a critical requirement.

“We’re employing advanced capacitor technologies and manufacturing techniques to develop significantly higher energy density capacitors that will provide reliable, pulsed power output in a small, easy to transport package.”

The PEVS system delivers an electrical pulse through contacts that are deployed when a vehicle rolls over to shut down electrical circuits.

The short, intense electrical pulse slows or stops the vehicle without affecting passengers.
