Boeing subsidiary Aviall has signed an agreement to sell and distribute Rolls-Royce-made AE engines to the defence sector.

Aviall has become the sole global sales and distribution provider for all defence variants of the AE engine family as a result of the deal.

The arrangement will see Aviall market AE 2100 turboprop, AE 1107C turboshaft and AE 3007 turbofan engines, which can be used to power a wide variety of military aircraft.

AE 2100 turboprop systems are used to power the C-130J, C-27J and ShinMaywa US-2 aircraft. More than 1,800 of these engines have been delivered to date.

The AE 1107C turboshaft powers the V-22 Osprey tilt rotor aircraft, while AE 3007 turbofan powers the Global Hawk and Triton unmanned surveillance platform, Boeing stated.

Rolls-Royce notes that AE 1107C features six stages of variable compressor vanes, dual FADECs and a self-contained oil system that enables vertical operation.

In addition, the AE 3007 turbofan engine is equipped with a wide-chord, single-stage, low-pressure (LP) compressor, 14-stage high-pressure (HP) compressor, an effusion-cooled annular combustor, two-stage high-pressure HP turbine and a three-stage low-pressure (LP) turbine.

Rolls-Royce North America Defense Services Business vice-president Jeff Thomas said: “Rolls-Royce focuses continuously on serving our military customers around the world, and our agreement with Aviall is already providing excellent support for AE engine operators.

“We are pleased with the smooth transition with Aviall, and we look forward to working together to keep our customers mission-ready.”

The agreement also covers the provision of global servicing and support for Rolls-Royce T56, M250 and RR300 engines.

Aviall currently supports both commercial and defence business units within Boeing.

The company also offers aftermarket supply chain management service solutions for the aerospace and defence industries.
