QinetiQ US has been chosen as one of the recipients for the US Army’s $4bn multiple award task order contract (MATOC) associated with the Product Director (PD) Aerostats initiative.
The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, which spans a decade, is designed to facilitate system integration, procure hardware, and provide engineering services, logistics support, operations management, and programme oversight for the PD Aerostats office.

Under the PD Aerostats MATOC, responsibilities include bolstering the persistent surveillance system – tethered (PSS-T) platforms, addressing future elevated sensing needs, and contributing to the persistent surveillance dissemination system of systems (PSDS2) initiative.
QinetiQ US said it is the sole prime contractor managing multiple strategic and tactical class aerostat sites that aid in US border security and defence efforts.
With its capabilities in both domestic and international arenas, QinetiQ US aims to continue providing persistent surveillance solutions that benefit the US and its allies.

By GlobalDataThe MATOC serves to replenish US inventories while offering product support services for various PSS-T systems currently deployed in overseas contingency operations, Army prepositioned reserves, and systems situated within both Contiguous United States (CONUS) and Outside Contiguous United States (OCONUS).
The PSS-T represents a versatile multi-sensor information gathering platform capable of integrating with other aerial assets and unattended ground sensors to enhance target acquisition capabilities.
Furthermore, this contract will address upcoming elevated sensing demands while ensuring ongoing service support for the PSDS2 initiative.
An additional feature of this MATOC is the provision for vendor rotation through options for on-ramping new suppliers or off-ramping existing ones to meet evolving requirements set forth by the Army.
In February 2025, QinetiQ US announced its involvement in a multi-stage prototype project for the US Army’s next-generation future advanced long-range common optical/netted-fires sensor programme.
The company is collaborating with the US Army Program Executive Office Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors on this multi-phase prototype effort.
