MBDA Australia managing director Andy Watson said: “MMP could be the missile of choice across a range of platforms for the Australian Defence Force and it is absolutely vital to have local companies like Cablex on board to realise this possibility.

“MBDA’s approach to Australian Industrial Capability is based on two principles: ensuring the Commonwealth has the highest level of operational independence and sovereignty in its use of the missile and generating real opportunities for Australian industry. “

“MMP could be the missile of choice across a range of platforms for the Australian Defence Force.”

The MoU with Cablex follows the recent announcement of a partnership between MBDA and Ferra Engineering to work on the Australian Department of Defence’s (DoD) LAND 400 programme, worth $20bn.

Through the partnership, MBDA’s MMP land combat missile system will be supplied for Phase II of the LAND 400 programme.

Featuring fire-and-forget and man-in-the-loop capabilities, the MMP has been designed for dismounted infantry and combat vehicle integration.

Weighing 15kg, the network-enabled MMP also receives third-party target designation for indirect firing scenarios.

Phase II of the LAND 400 programme involves the acquisition of combat reconnaissance vehicles to replace the DoD’s Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) fleet.

The latest MoU is one of a number of agreements with Australian companies expected to be completed over the coming weeks.
