A new breed of 120mm precision-guided mortar, produced by Israel Military Industries in partnership with Raytheon, hit eight out of nine target areas during a recent demonstration.

The US Army-Raytheon cooperative research and development agreement demonstration showed the GPS-guided mortar to be capable of hitting short and long-range targets.

The new 12-GM Dagger rounds allow soldiers to place a mortar within 10m of a target.

Raytheon’s Dagger programme manager Bill Patterson said the mortar meets the precision-guided requirements warfighters need.

“Dagger has demonstrated a high level of maturity, and we are ready to put it in production and get it to the soldiers in the field immediately,” he said.
