The Boxer multirole armoured fighting vehicle has been delivered to the armed forces of Germany and the Netherlands.
German defence companies Rheinmetall Defence and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), jointly responsible for producing the Boxer, handed over the vehicle to the programme’s administering office OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation).

KMW chief executive officer Frank Haun said the German and Dutch armed forces were getting a highly protected, highly mobile transport vehicle that’s specifically designed to meet the needs of the modern military.
The Boxer is a highly mobile 8×8 wheeled vehicle that can be quickly modified to accomplish a number of operations through the use of varied installable mission modules on the vehicle chassis.
The vehicle can carry up to ten men when configured as a squad transport vehicle. The fully armoured vehicle also provides enhanced protection against land-mines and ballistic threats and features extreme mobility and self-defence weaponry as well as the capacity to carry a heavy payload.
The Dutch Army will take delivery of 200 Boxers from 2011 through to the end of 2016 while the German armed forces ordered a total of 272 vehicles.
