Northrop Grumman Cobham Intercoms (NGCI) has restarted work on the US Army’s vehicular intercommunication system expanded (VIS-X) contract, originally awarded in June 2009.
Work on the project was halted after a losing bidder for the project filed a protest with the US Government Accountability Office (GAO). The GAO has since denied the protest and the contract can now progress with NGCI as the selected supplier.

VIS-X is a system designed to provide improved speech intelligibility and hearing protection to vehicle crew members and occupants.
Under the ten-year $2.4bn contract, NGCI will deliver up to 500 VIS-X systems a month during the first year and up to 2,000 systems a month in subsequent years.
In addition, VIS-X will provide increased command and control of the on-board and external communication assets, connection to future IP-based digital communications networks, VoIP services, and an increased number of user interfaces.
The state-of-the-art equipment can be installed on new production and legacy vehicle platforms regardless of vehicle type or age.
NGCI is joint venture between Northrop Grumman Corporation and Cobham.
