The US Army has awarded a contract to General Dynamics Land Systems for the design and development of future Stryker military vehicles.
Under the $203m contract, the company in cooperation with the Army will develop, design and build a demonstrator to analyse options to enhance the vehicles’ core capabilities, including survivability, power, lethality and the integration of new technologies.

General Dynamics Land Systems Ground Combat Systems senior vice-president Mike Cannon said the contract will incorporate the latest crew-protection technologies, and more power, mobility, agility and information connectivity.
The options also include analysis of adding a 450hp diesel engine, upgrading the suspension system and driveline to carry a 60,000lb payload, larger tyres and a new braking system.
The company is also working on the design of a digital architecture system which connects new command, control, communication, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technologies.
Stryker is an eight-wheel drive combat vehicle equipped with the latest C4ISR equipment and an integrated armour package to protect soldiers against improvised explosive devices, rocket-propelled grenades and a variety of infantry weapons.
