The US Army has awarded a contract to Raytheon for Patriot guidance enhanced tactical missiles.

Under the $58.2m contract, Raytheon will upgrade 124 Patriot advanced capability-2 missiles for the configuration.

The upgrades for the missiles will enhance their performance against tactical ballistic and cruise missiles and extend their reliability and the service life.

Raytheon Integrated Defence Systems Patriot programmes vice-president Sanjay Kapoor said the Patriot was combat proven and trusted by 12 nations around the globe, and the continuing upgrades highlight the critical role the Patriot plays in those countries’ air and missile defence capabilities.

Work will be carried out at the Raytheon IDS Integrated Air Defense Center, Andover, Massachusetts.

The US Army Aviation and Missile Command Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, awarded the contract as part of its Patriot missile continuous technology refreshment programme.
