Iran says it will soon induct its first indigenously built medium-range air defence missile system, Mersad (Ambush), and is planning to deliver a large number of missiles to the armed forces by the end of 2010.

Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the missile system featureed the latest technology, allowing it to attack modern aircraft at low and medium altitudes, according to presstv.ir.

“The state-of-the-art technology used in Mersad links it to other anti-aircraft batteries and provides it with the unique ability to combat electronic warfare,” he said.

Equipped with sophisticated radar signal processing technology and an advanced launcher, Mersad contains exclusive electronic equipment for guidance and target acquisition.
