Meggitt Safety Systems is to supply fire and overheat detectors for the Atlante long-endurance tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which is being built for the Spanish Ministry of Defence.
As a subcontractor to EADS Military Air Systems, Meggitt will install its extreme environment technology on the UAV to detect aircraft engine fire and overheat conditions.

The highly reliable pneumatic detector system has an endurance capacity of over 500 million unit-hours of flight service military aircraft platforms and will meet the requirements of the Atlante UAV.
The Spanish Army will use the Atlante to carry out intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance missions.
The Atlante UAV system is made up of four or more air vehicles; a ground control station; a ground data terminal; a transport, launch and recovery unit; a remote video terminal and a maintenance unit.
The UAV can be operated 24 hours a day in any climatic conditions, take off from unprepared runways and flown over segregated areas.
