The Slovak Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract to BAE Systems to provide new mobile military communications systems (MOKYS).
Under the €57m ($73.8m) contract, the company will also upgrade the Slovak armed forces’ existing military communications systems to allow it to be interoperable with the new equipment.

MOKYS is a modular and highly mobile communications system that offers secure transfer of information, including voice, data and imagery, at both the operational and tactical levels of command.
The Slovakian military successfully deployed the MOKYS system on the Nato communications interoperability exercise “Combined Endeavour” from 2008 to 2009.
Features of the new MOKYS configuration include a new container design with improved ergonomics, reduced payload, a new power design for sharing of generators between units and improved armour protection.
BAE Systems managing director Dean McCumiskey said the communications technology enabled the Slovak armed forces to operate their Nato missions.
