The British Army has begun using the Apple iPad in conjunction with a special application to train soldiers operating in Afghanistan.

The iPad application teaches troops how to handle a fire mission – when the troops fire artillery at the enemy from several miles away – according to BBC News.

Soldiers at the command and control station will use the application to provide front-line forces with location and description of the target ensuring the right weapons are fired, at the right time and at the right target.

Army officials say the application along with future variants is expected to significantly reduce the training procedure and also help the soldiers in real-time operations.
