The Archer system consists of BAE’s FH77-B05 155mm/52-calibre cannon mounted on a modified Volvo six-wheel commercial truck.

The light, mobile, air-portable, highly automated system can hit targets at ranges of 50km (31 miles) with rocket-boosted ammunition.

The contract is part of the joint Norwegian-Swedish artillery cooperation programme for procurement of 48 Archer systems with each country investing $1.2bn for an initial 24 units.

The system is scheduled for delivery in 2012.
