The Pentagon has plans to build three air bases in Afghanistan to support increased US military operations in the future.
The first $100m project, planned at Shindand Air Base, North of Kabul, is for special operations helicopters and unmanned intelligence and surveillance aircraft, office, ground and maintenance facilities, and barracks for 60 new personnel.

The second $100m project for the air field at Camp Dwyer, Helmand province, will accommodate fixed-wing and helicopter aircraft, according to the Washington Post.
The third project at Mazar-e Sharif, Northern Afghanistan, will provide extra parking space for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, including three or more maintenance hangars.
The three projects, for use by US forces in southern and northern Afghanistan, reflect the expectation of continued combat operations across the country.
The bases are expected to be completed by the latter half of 2011.
