Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the country’s security forces should be equipped with the latest telecommunications, and production of such equipment should be increased.

“Currently, we buy this kind of equipment from nearly 40 foreign firms. Sometimes we can’t dispense with foreign technology but we should make the best use of our capabilities in the area of telecoms equipment and software,” Medvedev said.

The existing analogue telecommunications used within the country’s armed forces will be replaced with digital technology, according to RIA Novosti.
