The Iskander-M system (Nato name SS-26 Stone) is equipped with two solid-propellant single-stage guided missiles with quasi-ballistic capability and a range of 400km. It can carry conventional and nuclear warheads.

The missiles are for the development and rearmament of the Russian army and about five missile brigades will be equipped with the systems by 2016.

The number of military districts will be cut from six to four by 1 December 2010 and will be replaced by unified strategic commands as part of Russia’s military reforms.
