The US is considering changing its foreign military sales (FMS) rules to participate in an Indian tender worth more than $250m for 1,000-plus anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs).
Changing the rules will allow the US to offer the Lockheed-Raytheon-manufactured Javelin ATGM in competition with Israel’s Rafael Spike missile, according to Defenseworld.

According to executives of Lockheed, the missile has been classed as FMS only, which means only the US government could authorise sales of the missile after direct negotiations with the purchasing country’s government.
The Javelin, considered one of the most accurate ATGMs in the world, has already completed trials in India.
The country will evaluate the Javelin against the Spike man-portable ATGM before reaching a final decision.
