The US Army has awarded a phase II four-year fixed-price contract to Lockheed to modernise of the Apache helicopter’s modernised target acquisition designation sight / pilot night vision sensor (M-TADS / PNVS) system.

Under the $65m contract, Lockheed will complete the modernising of the Apache’s day sensor assembly (DSA) and will ensure M-TADS / PNVS remains the most advanced electro-optical precision engagement system for attack helicopters.

The M-TADS / PNVS, also known as Arrowhead, will provide Apache pilots with advanced piloting and targeting capability during day, night and adverse-weather missions.

US Army Apache sensors product manager Lieutenant Colonel John Vannoy said the modernised DSA would replace the 30-year-old hardware making the Apache a more lethal and survivable aircraft on the battlefield.
