The decision to scrap Nimrod and Harrier jets, made in the UK Government’s Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR), has caused BAE to cut 1,350 jobs at its production plants.

Job losses are expected at BAE’s Woodford plant near Stockport, England, and at other sites where work on the Nimrod and Harrier jets took place.

A BAE spokesperson told The Guardian newspaper that the job cuts were part of a continual review of activities across the business and part of the planning process reviewing the impact of the SDSR.

“If these reviews raise any issues that direct affect our employees, then our policy is to communicate with our employees through our normal channels,” he added.
