The UK Ministry of Defence has received the final batch of Surveillance System and Range Finder (SSARF) units from Thales UK, two months ahead of schedule.
The SSARF units are similar to a large pair of binoculars and feature eye-safe laser range-finding capability, embedded military global positioning satellite and azimuth angular referencing.

The features provide accurate target location data to the troops for mortar and artillery fire control.
The units, which are already operational, provide the UK troops with an ultra-lightweight, compact, multi-role, night vision target locator capability.
About 707 SSARF units have been built by the company under a £30m contract awarded in February 2008.
