COE is for systems such as battle command applications, sensors and vehicles on the move to be able to communicate efficiently.

System of Systems Engineering director Terry Edwards explained that the army effort being undertaken was similar to commercial environments created by Apple and Google.

The Apple and Android environment provides common pieces of software that can be used by a developer to quickly build an application.

The army has plans to establish an ecosystem for each of the computing environments (CE) so that the developers produce and deploy high-quality applications rapidly.
